NaviNet passwords must be protected just as closely as passwords to the EMR system or other systems containing PHI. Set a policy for the office that passwords should never be put on yellow stickies that sit in plain sight near the computer.
The most common issue with passwords is that users forget them and need them to be reset. NaviNet has methods for resetting passwords:
- Users can reset their own passwords by clicking Forgot Your Password on the NaviNet login page.
- Security officers can reset a user’s password in the Administration section of NaviNet. This assigns the user a temporary password. The user will need to select a permanent password upon initial login.
